How to Participate in our Second Century Campaign:
Caring for Generations

You can participate in giving to support Hebrew Health Care:

One Time Gifts

Gifts of Cash—The easiest way to participate in the campaign, support Hebrew Health Care and get a charitable deduction for the current year is simply to write a check!  You may contribute any time within the year and get the charitable deduction in that year.  If you itemize, your outright gifts of cash are fully deductible for federal income tax purposes up to 50% of your adjusted gross income.

Gifts of Stock—Giving long-term appreciated stock offers you a two-fold tax saving.  First, you avoid paying any capital gains tax on the increase in value of your stock.  In addition, you receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift.  For income tax purposes the value of such gifts may be deducted up to 30% of adjusted gross income, with an additional five-year carry forward.

Gifts of Real Estate—If you have owned your home, a vacation home, or acreage for many years you may give that real estate to Hebrew Health Care for a particularly advantageous tax deduction.

As with a gift of stock, the property can be donated to Hebrew Health Care at its full fair market value for which you would receive a tax deduction.  At the same time, you avoid capital gains tax on the appreciated value of the real estate that you would have incurred had you sold it outright.

You may also consider a gift of your personal residence and reserving the right to live in the house for life.  This arrangement would result in a current income tax deduction for a portion of the fair market value of the house.

Gifts of Other Assets—You may donate art, jewelry and other valuables to Hebrew Health Care and receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of those items.

Continuing and Legacy Gifts

First Families—Our First Families are the backbone of Hebrew Health Care.  Each First Family makes a continuing commitment of at least $10,000 per year for at least 5 years to provide support for the special programs and facilities that enhance the lives of our clients, patients and residents. Members of the First Families of Hebrew Health Care are listed in the Annual Report and all major communications from Hebrew Health Care.

Futures Society (Planned Giving)—Gifts that live on after you are very special legacies.  There are many opportunities for giving of this type:

  • Life Insurance policies—If you own a life insurance policy you may donate it to Hebrew Health Care and receive a tax deduction for the approximate cash value of the policy at the time of the gift.  If annual premiums remain to be paid, you may deduct them as well in the year they are made.  You may also buy a policy with the home as owner and beneficiary and deduct those premiums each year.  (Consult your insurance agent for more information.)

  • Bequests—You may leave a contribution to Hebrew Health Care as a bequest in your will.  This type of deduction may save your heirs substantial estate taxes. Consult your tax attorney or other advisors for more information.

  • Life Income Gifts—Gifts such as charitable remainder trusts are wonderful gifts to Hebrew Health Care that can be given during your lifetime.  Consult your advisors for specifics.

Endowment and Special Funds—An important part of the Second Century Campaign
is the provision for lasting income to Hebrew Health Care for future programming and care needs.  This is done through endowment—a special fund that is created to remain in existence in perpetuity, with the income being returned to Hebrew Health Care to meet its needs.  You may specify your gift to be part of the Endowment Fund, and gifts of $25,000 or more can be designated for special programs or services at any of the Hebrew Health Care facilities.
